Improve students' accuracy, confidence and efficiency of recall of key skills...
Mathsquad's FREE weekly worksheets give students regular opportunities to practice the skills that underpin success in high school. Ongoing practice is the key to improving students accuracy, efficiency, confidence and retention of these skills and these worksheets give students the ongoing practice they need to achieve these outcomes.
The weekly worksheets can be used at school or at home, and lead by teachers or parents. Parents and individual teachers download these workbooks for FREE using the links below. Information for how to use these sheets is just below.
We also provide free videos and practice questions to help students improve their knowledge of specific skills from these sheet.
Step 1. Determining the appropriate level of week for your child/student
Have your child/students complete the Mathsquad Pretest. Once completed correct the work using this solutions page and use the guide below to determine the appropriate level of work to begin from.
- Start at KS3 if all skills within the pretest have been answered correctly, or if only minor arithmetic errors have occurred.
- Start at KS2 if all skills within the first two pages have been answered correctly, or if only minor arithmetic errors have occurred.
- Start at KS1 if there was at least one skill from the first two pages that needs to be learnt/improved.
Step 2. Start the improvement cycle
- Use the following links to download the FREE workbook and solutions at the appropriate level: KS1, KS2 or KS3
- Print out 4 worksheets
- Each week have your child/student do the following
- Complete the sheet to their best effort, following all instructions (ie. timing the warm up, including working out for questions with a pencil etc)
- Correct the worksheet using the solutions file
- Identify one skill that can be improved and head to the relevant skill development webpage to engage in online resources: KS1, Ks2 or KS3 (Note: Skills are numbered to match the questions within the worksheet)
- Celebrate any improvements that have been made since completing the previous sheet
- If after completing the four worksheets all skills have been mastered it might be time to move onto the next level. If not (a very likely outcome) print off the next four worksheets and work through steps 1 to 4 again.
Step 3. Moving up a level
Once a student is can confidently carry out all skills within a worksheet it they are likely to be ready to move onto the next level. Each new level requires students to use skills from the previous sheets in more challenging ways so it is important not to rush the process. There are 40 sheets available at each level to support the gradual development of skills over time.
If your child/student is ready for the next level, head back to the start of the improvement cycle and complete the work at the new level.
